Australia U23

Australia fielded an under-23 side for the first time on 6 November 1967, in a triangular tournament in Nouméa against New Caledonia and New Zealand, and lost the opener 2–1.

The team has no ground of its own, moving between venues for qualifiers, though Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane has hosted it often enough to count as a base of sorts, with camps run out of the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

The high point came at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics: fourth place, reached by way of a semi-final against Poland that finished 6–1 and ended any talk of a medal. Tony Vidmar has coached the team since May 2022, taking over a program that had by then reached seven AFC U-23 tournaments and gone home from Thailand in 2020 with third place, its best finish in Asian competition.
