Baldoyle United

For most of the estate the club on Brookstone Road is the football: a schoolboys-and-adults set-up that has kept the game going locally since 1969, long enough that its green-and-white hooped kit actually predates the club itself, a design carried over from the 1950s. The hoops are no accident — Baldoyle United is an official affiliate of Shamrock Rovers, the only club in North Dublin to hold that status, with a further tie to Shelbourne. That link has produced real traffic in both directions: Kate Mooney went on to Shelbourne Women, and Dan Ring moved into the Shelbourne Academy.

The club's name turns up more often for what happens off the pitch than on it. In 2016 the Football Association of Ireland named it Community Club of the Year, and UNITE followed in 2019 with its own Grassroots Community Club of the Year award. In 2021 Baldoyle United became the first club in North East Dublin to hold the FAI Club Mark accreditation. On the field, the strongest recent form has come from the Over-35s side, which took the Jim Byrne Cup in both 2022 and 2023.

Its sharpest rivalry owes nothing to a league table. Carrigstown Crusaders exist only in the RTÉ soap opera Fair City, but the storyline was popular enough that it produced an actual fixture: a charity match in November 2019 that sold out at 500, filling Brookstone Road to a capacity the ground has never officially claimed on paper.
