Barbate

Barbate is a tuna-fishing town in the province of Cádiz, and its football club wears that in its nicknames. Supporters call the side Los Atunes Rojos, the Red Tunas, as well as Los Rojiazules and Bajunos, the last taken from the local dialect word for the town's inhabitants. The home shirt is red with blue sleeves, shorts and socks.

The club, founded in 1945, reached the fourth tier, the Tercera División, in 1956 and stayed for eight seasons. It went down in 1964 and has not returned. The decline was long: by the late 1970s Barbate were in the Segunda Regional, the seventh tier. A win in the Primera Regional de Cádiz in 1980–81 brought promotion and started the climb back.

Since then the club has moved between regional divisions. It reached the Primera Andaluza in 2009–10, came back to it in 2022 and again in 2024, with relegations in between. Cádiz CF once paid the referees' fees when Barbate could not.

The fixture that matters most is against Vejer Balompie, from neighbouring Vejer de la Frontera. Local people call it the derby de la comarca jandeña, the Janda Derby, after the district both towns belong to.

In 1967–68 the team won the Regional Preferente provincial championship and the Campeón de Campeones title. That side was coached by Juan Román Villalta. The same team also finished as runners-up in the Copa Sánchez Pizjuán, a cup contested in Seville.
