Bissingen

The club shares its history with the city it inhabits—**Bietigheim-Bissingen**—and when the municipalities united in 2021, the team was forced to adopt a new name, a reminder that boundaries are fluid but memories are not. The club’s existence has always been precarious. It began in 1908 as **FC Viktoria Bissingen**, but political regimes and war have a habit of interrupting sporting continuity. After being outlawed in 1934, the football department hid inside **TV Bissingen** until 1945. The modern entity, **FSV 08 Bietigheim-Bissingen**, emerged on January 5, 1950, when the footballers finally separated to form their own association. They kept the ‘08’ from the original founding year, a small act of preservation. Sporting fortunes have been volatile. The club ground out promotion to the **Oberliga Baden-Württemberg** after winning the **Verbandsliga Württemberg** in 2015, but the top flight proved too steep a climb. They finished 17th in the 2024–25 season and were relegated, a result that felt inevitable given the gap between them and the teams above. The **Sportgelände am Bruchwald**, with its 3,000 seats, is a modest stage for such drama. It is not a cathedral of football; it is a local field where the wind sometimes ruins the passing game. The most notable figure to grace the pitch was **Tobias Weis**, a former German international who joined in January 2018. He arrived as a player and stayed as a manager, but his tenure ended without the turnaround fans had hoped for. His presence was a brief flare of professionalism in a sea of amateurs. The derby with **SGV Freiberg** remains the defining feature of the season. It is a contest that requires no introduction. The city derby, or **Stadtduell**, against **SV Germania Bietigheim** is another matter, but the trip to Freiberg carries the weight of regional pride. The club plays in black and white, colours that have not changed since 1908, even if the name has.

FSV 08 Bietigheim-Bissingen is a club defined by its resilience. It has survived mergers, bans, and relegations. The rivalry with **SGV Freiberg** ensures that every match matters.
