Brunnen

Brunnen, founded on 12 May 1931 in the Schwyz lakeside commune of the same name, has spent most of its life in the lower reaches of the Swiss pyramid, with two spells worth naming. The club reached 1. Liga, then the third tier, for the first time in 1967 and dropped straight back down. A longer run followed between 1973 and 1978: in 1973/74 Brunnen made it to the promotion play-off for Nationalliga B, the second division, and lost by a single goal, then went down again from 1. Liga in 1977/78.

The 2007 split marked the club more deeply than either campaign. A dispute inside FC Brunnen led to the departure of a breakaway group that formed FC Ingenbohl, and the row over the shared ground and dressing rooms ran as far as the Federal Supreme Court before the facilities were divided. Brunnen returned to 2. Liga in 2010 and, after relegation in 2013, bounced straight back up and then moved on into 2. Liga Interregional, the fifth tier, the same year.

Marco Wiget started out at Brunnen at six years old, went on to play for FC Luzern, SC Kriens and FC Wil in the Swiss top flights, and came home in 2020 to finish his career at the club in 2022.
