Caransebeș sits in Caraș-Severin, a county in the Romanian west. What began in 2006 as FC Scorilo Autocatania Caransebeș shortened itself to FC Caransebeș, then added 1913 to the end.
Winning the Caraș-Severin county championship in 2009-10 put the club into Liga III, and the 2013-14 title there carried it into Liga II, the second tier.
2014-15 was both the high point and the end of it. That season the club reached the sixth round of the Cupa României, the last 32, and went out to CS Universitatea Craiova. In the league the money ran out: the club was docked points and disqualified, finished second in the play-out and technically kept its place, then folded the following summer owing wages to its players.
