Chevremont

Kerkrade sits in the far south-eastern corner of Limburg, a mining town whose identity has long been split between two clubs sharing the same streets. Chevremont is the smaller of the two, the one that never chased Roda JC's stage and instead kept its football at Sportpark Kaffeberg, where a crowd of a thousand is a full house.

The club started out as Olympia, and it kept that name for eight years before switching to Chevremont in 1918 — a change that outlasted the original by more than a century. What began in 1910 has stayed put ever since, playing out its seasons in the lower reaches of the Dutch pyramid rather than climbing toward it.

Blue and white run through the kit, shirt against shorts, and there is no nickname attached to any of it — just a team that gets on with playing in the Eerste Klasse, the sixth tier of the game in the Netherlands. Even there, Chevremont has occasionally found itself drawn against Roda JC in the KNVB Beker, the sort of cup pairing that puts a local derby in front of a stadium many sizes larger than Kaffeberg, before returning to the rhythm of its own level.
