Delaware FC

On a night in June 2025, Delaware FC's players took the field in highlighter-yellow kits and rescued a point against Reading United AC with a goal deep into the finish. Most of the squad were college players home for the summer, as is usual on USL League Two rosters.

The club's history runs through two separate lines rather than one clean start. A youth club once known as Delaware Rush, based in Hockessin, traces back to 1989, when it operated as Hockessin Soccer Club. In April 2024, that club merged with Delaware Union Soccer Club to form the Delaware FC now fielding a senior side, playing under the nickname Ospreys, based in Wilmington and nearby Henlopen.

Home games are played at Abessinio Stadium, a 4,000-seat venue in Wilmington built for Salesianum School, with standing room for another thousand behind the seats.

2025 was the club's first season in USL League Two's Mid-Atlantic Division. 18 points left Delaware FC fourth, short of the playoff line. Reading United AC and West Chester United SC sit closest on the map, but there is no old rivalry between them yet — the club is too new for one. For now, the task is to build a season on top of the first.
