Eilenburg

Two clubs from the same corner of Saxony went into what became FC Eilenburg, and even the year of that merger is not settled beyond dispute: German sources point to 1997, when SV Lok Eilenburg and Mörtitzer Fußballclub Eilenburg came together, with FSV Grün-Weiß Eilenburg following in 2001. The club's own account traces the line back further, to 1 January 1994, when the side took over from Sportverein Mörtitz.

Whichever date is taken as the starting point, the club's ceiling has stayed the same: the Sachsenliga, Saxony's fourth tier. Eilenburg won it twice, in 2003–04 and 2016–17, and both titles carried promotion into the NOFV-Oberliga Süd. The second promotion proved the more durable step up — three years earlier, in 2007, the club had already touched its highest league finish there, third place, so the return in 2017 was a side trying to get back to ground it had briefly held.

Before any of that, as Sportverein Mörtitz, the predecessor had already won the Bezirksliga Leipzig in 1992–93, and FC Eilenburg repeated the feat under its own name in 1996–97 — the same regional level cleared twice, four years apart, either side of the merger.

Blue and red have stayed the club's colours throughout, a detail confirmed by both the German football association's records and the club itself, unaffected by all the renaming above it.
