Famalicão U23

Rui Tomé’s side finished as runners-up in the 2024-25 Liga Revelação U23, losing out to Torreense in the final. That result capped a run of consistency for the Famalicão U23 squad, who have now secured a podium place in three consecutive seasons. The progression from third in 2023-24 to second in 2022-23 shows a steady climb rather than a sudden breakthrough.

The team operates as the reserve wing of Futebol Clube de Famalicão, founded in Vila Nova de Famalicão in 1931. It does not carry its own founding date; it exists within the parent club’s academy structure. They compete in the league formerly known as Liga NextGen.

On the pitch, the identity is clear. The players wear blue and white, the colours defined in the club’s statutes decades ago, and they use the main team’s badge. There is no separate nickname for the reserve side. They train and play at Complexo Desportivo FC Famalicão - Campo 2. The capacity of the ground is not settled—some sources say 1,000, others 2,000.

Individual performances have marked these campaigns. André Ricardo was voted the best player of the league in 2020/2021, while more recently Rudi Almeida scored 13 goals in a single season. These recognitions highlight the quality produced by the setup under Tomé.

The club shares a local rivalry with FC Vizela, a match sometimes called a 'dérbi minhoto'. While the senior side fights to maintain its place in the Primeira Liga after a difficult spell in the lower tiers, the U23 team continues to develop talent.
