Hastings United

The men who put a team together on the Hastings seafront in 1894 named it Rock-a-Nore.

The strongest run in the club's history came in the 1930s, when the side won the Southern Amateur League Division One in 1934–35 and held it for the next two seasons. A fourth title followed in 1938–39, and the run stopped there, for the reason every English club's run stopped that summer. In the middle of it, in 1937–38, the club took both the Sussex Senior Cup and the Amateur Football Alliance Senior Cup.

Sixty years on the club was in a different competition altogether, winning the Southern League Southern Division in 1991–92 and the Southern League Cup in 1995, with Sussex Senior Cups in 1996 and 1998 either side of it. The most recent league title came in 2021–22, in the Isthmian League South East Division.

Home is The Pilot Field on Elphinstone Road, which holds 4,050, though only 800 of those are seats. The colours are claret and blue; for 2017–18 the club ran out in all white with claret and blue trim, then went back.

Supporters answer to the U's, but a second nickname stuck in the early 2000s, when the club had a short partnership with the local station Arrow FM and the terraces picked up the Arrows — a word that in this town points at one thing, the arrow at the Battle of Hastings, which is why it lasted longer than the sponsorship did.

The rivalries follow the same map as the trophies: the Sussex sides met year after year in the Senior Cup, Worthing among them, and the county competitions are where those meetings still carry the most weight.
