Promotion came in 2025, when the women's side won Division 2 Västra Svealand and earned a place in Division 1 Mellersta, the third tier, for the 2026 season.
The women's team was folded into IF Karlstad Fotboll, an organisation put together in November 2019 out of Karlstad BK and Carlstad United BK, and played its first match under the new badge on 8 March 2020, a 3–3 draw away to Arvika FK. Women's football in the town, though, goes back further than the merger: a section of Karlstad BK broke away in 1978 and became QBIK Karlstad, a separate club altogether.
The step up to Division 1 brought recruits from Mallbackens IF, which had disbanded its elite side. Among them is Viktoria Ström, a central midfielder who captained that team.
Home matches are played at Sola Arena in the Sandbäcken district, which holds 4,000, with 1,500 of those seated. The club moved there in 2022, having previously used Tingvalla IP.
