Jove Español

San Vicente del Raspeig sits just north of Alicante, close enough to the city that many treat it as an extension of it, but the town has kept its own football club running under one continuous roof since 1 August 1967, when it began life as C.D. Español de San Vicente. The name has moved more than the club itself has: a merger with C.D. San Vicente in 1974 brought a switch to Unión Deportiva San Vicente, the original name returned in 1988, and a re-registration in 1989 produced A.D. Español de San Vicente. The club maintains it never stopped being the same institution through any of it. In 2004, a merger with C.D. Jove Raspeig and F.C. Cosmos San Vicente gave it the name it has carried since, Fútbol Club Jove Español de San Vicente — though from 1 July 2026 it plans to go back to being C.D. Español de San Vicente, timed to reach its 60th anniversary in 2027 under the name it started with.

The club plays at Ciudad Deportiva San Vicente del Raspeig, a 2,500-capacity ground, in green shirts and white shorts, keeping red and black as a second kit in a nod to the original C.D. Español colours. Its honours belong to the lower rungs of Valencian regional football: the Primera Regional Group 4 title in 2003/04 earned promotion to Regional Preferente, and two years later, in 2005/06, the club won Regional Preferente Group IV and went up again via the play-offs, this time into Tercera División.

Players who came through or passed through the club have generally made their names elsewhere. Álex Muñoz played for Jove Español in Tercera in 2013/14 before going on to captain sides at Las Palmas and Tenerife in Segunda. Goalkeeper Josete had two spells at the club, the second ending in 2017/18, after previous stops at Hércules and other Segunda B sides. Luis Fuentes, by contrast, stayed: he holds the club's appearance record. Pepe returned in 2016 for what became his twelfth season in the colours, and Luis Ortiz came back in 2015 to captain the side through its run to the 2019/20 Copa RFEF territorial title, a campaign that ended at the national play-off stage.

Local rivalries in Alicante football tend to run through Hércules, the province's dominant club, against whom a meeting for Jove Español carries more weight than the league table alone would suggest.
