Krems / Rehberg

Two fixtures give the Kremser Sport-Club calendar its shape: the Lower Austrian derby against SKN St. Pölten and the neighbourhood meeting with FC Marchfeld Donauauen. Neither needs explaining to anyone in Krems an der Donau.

The club that built that rivalry has spent most of a century going by a different name than the one on the shirt today. Founded on 24 August 1919 as 1. Kremser Sport-Club, it reached its peak in 1988, beating FC Swarovski Tirol on away goals to win the Austrian Cup, then lost the Supercup to SK Rapid Wien on penalties days later. Seven Lower Austrian State League titles followed across six decades, along with a run between 2013 and 2014 in which the side went 42 competitive matches unbeaten, a record for Austria's top four divisions.

Two players passed through in consecutive seasons at the end of the 1980s: Hans Krankl, who won 69 caps for Austria, arrived in 1988, and Felix Gasselich followed a year later. Mario Kempes, who lifted the World Cup with Argentina in 1978, spent his last two playing seasons here between 1990 and 1992. Stefan Maierhofer's connection to the club ran the other way round: he finished his playing career at Krems in 2023 and came back as coach in 2026.

From the 2024/25 season, the first team took the field jointly with SV Rehberg as SG Kremser SC/SV Rehberg in the Regionalliga Ost, third tier, playing out of the Sepp-Doll-Stadion under the club's long-standing black and white. The two clubs ended that cooperation by mutual agreement in May 2026.

The stadium holds 10,000, with room for 893 in seats and 9,107 standing.
