Lauwe

Lauwe sits within the municipality of Menen, in West Flanders, and its Saturday afternoons at Stadion Jan Verhoeve belong to KWSC Lauwe. The club has carried the same yellow and black since it was registered with the Belgian football association on 24 July 1925, a fortnight after it was formed as White Star Club Lauwe, and it took the serial number 535 that still marks it out in Belgian football's records.

The name has moved more than the club itself has. White Star gave way to KSV Lauwe, then RC Lauwe, before the current KWSC Lauwe settled into place, each change a small marker of a side that has stayed local rather than climbed away from its town. A team poster from the 1971-72 season, since passed into private hands through a memorabilia sale, is one of the few physical traces of that longer history to have surfaced.

No cups or championships attach to the name. Lauwe has spent its century in the provincial leagues of West Flanders, the kind of football where a poster from fifty years ago counts as an archive. That absence of honours is not a gap in the record; it is the record; a club that measures itself in seasons played rather than titles won.

Stadion Jan Verhoeve once carried the name Omer Dewitte, another change quietly folded into a club that has rarely stood still in name even while its ambitions have stayed modest. The ground holds 3,000.
