Malženice

Second-tier football in Slovakia reaches, among its stops, a village of roughly 1500 people. Malženice play in the 2.

The club did not arrive there by the usual route of a village side climbing on its own. Since the 2021/22 season it has operated as the farm club of FC Spartak Trnava , taking the bigger club's players for competitive minutes rather than reserve-team football. Trnava is close by; the arrangement gave Malženice a squad at second-division level and gave Trnava somewhere to send footballers who needed games.

The first win at that level came in August 2023, 2:0 against Tatran Prešov. It did not stay a win for long. The result was challenged over a breach of the rules on player eligibility — a familiar hazard for a side drawing on another club's registrations — and the club's opening victory in the division became a matter for the paperwork rather than the table.

The ground sits at Malženice 237, in a village with a postcode and not much else in the way of address. The club dates to 1931 , which puts nine decades of local football behind a side that only recently began playing opponents from the other end of the country.

Spartak's involvement is what most people outside the district know about Malženice, and it is the reason a village team's teamsheet each week is worth reading: the names on it belong to Trnava, and some of them will turn up in the top flight before long.
