Marlin Coast

Pennell Field sits inside the Trinity Beach Sporting Precinct on Nautilus Street, in a northern suburb of Cairns, and holds about 1,000 people on a big day. The club that plays there has carried three names in its life, and the first two came from a brewery.

It was founded in 1946 as Northern Australia Brewery, and the nickname "The Brewery" outlasted the company name. In 1973 the side became Carlton United Brewery. The current name, Marlin Coast Rangers, dates from 1983, and the nickname is now "The Coast". The colours are navy and white.

The club won the Far North and Gulf league in 1952 and 1954. The title then did not return until 2007, and since then it has come in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2024 and 2025. Five of those seasons, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2024 and 2025, also brought the Crad Evans Shield, which made them full sweeps of the regional honours. Edge Hill United are the nearest rivals, and their meetings are hard-fought, though no derby has a name of its own.

The 2025 season went beyond the region. Marlin Coast beat Magic United, the champions of Football Queensland Premier League 1, 3-0 in the FQPL Champions League final. No regional side had won that competition before. The same year they reached the quarter-finals of the Kappa Queensland Cup.

The name most tied to that season is Crios O'Hare, who is both player and coach. In 2025 he scored after 3.68 seconds, the fastest goal recorded in Australian soccer.
