Nordhorn

Nordhorn's football club has spent recent seasons in the regional tiers of Lower Saxony football, a long way down from where it once stood, and the club's own recent past explains why: insolvency in 2012, run up on debts of €250,000, forced relegation to the Landesliga and a 2015 merger with Türkischer Verein Nordhorn before the original name returned.

The club traces back to January 22, 1909, when it was founded as FC Sparta Nordhorn; it took the name Eintracht in 1947. Between 1955 and 1960, and again briefly in 1962, Eintracht held a place in the Oberliga Nord, then the top flight of football in the north of Germany. One player who came through the youth ranks in that period, Otto Geisert, went on to score the first hat-trick in Bundesliga history, doing it for Karlsruher SC in 1963.

The club's own honours board is thinner than that era might suggest: three straight Amateuroberliga Niedersachsen-West titles in 1953, 1954 and 1955, an Oberliga Niedersachsen/Bremen championship in 1997 that brought promotion to the Regionalliga Nord, and two Lower Saxony Cup wins, in 1974 and 2008. The 1974 final went to extra time before Eintracht saw off 1. FC Wunstorf 4-3. Cup form also carried the club into the DFB-Pokal on five separate occasions, in 1975, 1978, 1979, 1981 and 2009.

Matches against SV Vorwärts Nordhorn and VfL Weiße Elf Nordhorn are still known locally as the Nordhorner Derby, played out in wine red and white.

Home games are still played in front of a ground built to hold 7,500.
