Daniel Agger spent his club career marking strikers for Liverpool and Denmark's national side. In 2021 he took the bench at HB Køge, the men's team he coached until 2023, when Niklas Pedersen, who had played for Herfølge BK before the merger, succeeded him.

That merger, between Herfølge Boldklub and Køge Boldklub, went through on 1 July 2009, four years after the first talks between the two clubs had started and a few months after the formal decision in March that year. The men's side has never lifted a major trophy since — a run to the Danish Cup semi-final in 2011/12 and back-to-back sixth-place finishes in the Superligaen in 2012/13 and 2013/14 remain the high points, either side of promotion from the 1. Division in 2011.

The women's team tells a different story. HB Køge won the Kvindeligaen three years running, in 2020, 2021 and 2022, and Signe Bruun, who went on to play for Chelsea and Lyon, came through there. Ownership has since split along the same lines that separate the two sides on the pitch: American businessman George Altirs, through Capelli Sport, became majority shareholder of the men's team in 2019, while the women's team changed hands in May 2025, sold to Angie and Chris Long's Ballard Capital.

Both sides still play at the Capelli Sport Stadion, formerly known as Køge Stadion, in black and blue with white trim — colours that gave the club its nickname, Svanerne, the Swans. The ground holds 4,000 for 1. Division fixtures, though the wider redevelopment finished in 2020 brought total capacity up to 6,000.
