Racing Waregem

Waregem answers to three football registration numbers, though only one first team still carries the town's name through the province's amateur leagues. When financial trouble kept Racing Waregem out of the July 2001 merger that created SV Zulte Waregem from KSV Waregem and Zultse VV, the club held on to its original matricule and has played on in the amateur game ever since, a few streets from the stadium where the town's professional football now goes on under another name.

West Flemish speakers know it as De Rassing, and yellow and red have stayed the club's colours throughout. Home games are played at the Mirakelstadion on Mirakelstraat, which holds 2,960 — built for the level the club actually competes at, not the one KSV Waregem once occupied.

The one national honour on record is the Belgian fourth division title, Promotion Series A, won in 2003/04. In the Belgian Cup the furthest the club has reached is the last sixteen, in 2005/06, where Standard Liège ended the run. Players such as Daniël Veyt, the Millecamps brothers and Aurelio Vidmar wore a Waregem shirt at a far higher level, but for KSV Waregem, not this club; Racing Waregem's own record belongs to the lower divisions.

It started in 1941 as Racing Kleithoek, and took the name Racing Waregem two years later on registering with the Belgian federation. The royal title arrived in 1992, when it became KRC Waregem — the name still attached to the matricule that survived 2001, while the town's professional football moved on under another badge.
