The men who ran FC Rebstein in 1922 wound the club up and walked out of the regional association altogether. It stayed gone for 23 years, until a meeting on 20 July 1945 put it back on the register.
The first version had begun in 1911 and played its opening fixture on 17 April that year against Altstätten, losing 3:5. The high point came later: promotion to the 2. Liga in 1961, then the Ostschweiz 2. Liga title in 1967.
The Pokalturnier , played at home, has produced the club's two neatest results, and both came against the same opponent in the same manner. In 1981 Rebstein beat FC Widnau on penalties, 5:4 after a goalless final. In 2025 they beat Widnau on penalties again, 5:4, 44 years on.
In 2024 the canton named Rebstein its sports club of the year. On 30 May 2026 the side won the OFV-Cup for the 3rd to 5th leagues, beating FC Rapperswil-Jona III 3:0, and a 4:0 win over Labinoti returned them to the 2. Liga after six years away.
