Ribadesella Cf

Josu Uribe was the coach when Ribadesella finished 4th in the Tercera División in 2001–02 and then went through the promotion play-offs. The club beat Betanzos, San Sebastián de los Reyes and Gimnástica Segoviana, and reached the Segunda División B, the third tier at the time.

The stay lasted one season. Ribadesella went down after 2002–03, and it took two more years to get close again. In 2004–05 the side finished second in the Tercera División, and the club stayed in that division for several years after.

The drop came later and in two steps. Relegations in 2010–11 and 2011–12 took the club from the Tercera División into the regional leagues, the second of them down to Segunda Asturfútbol. The causes were off the pitch, in institutional and economic problems. The football followed the state of the club.

The lower divisions were not new to Ribadesella. Before the years in the Tercera, the club won the Segunda Regional de Asturias three seasons running, from 1974–75 to 1976–77, and then the Primera Regional in 1977–78. It won the Primera Regional again in 2015–16 and played in the Copa del Rey the following season.

In 2021 the club came close to disappearing. No candidate stood for the presidency, and a steering committee, a junta gestora, took charge to keep it going. Ribadesella has carried on since, and this season the Copa del Rey brought a tie with Noja.

Uribe's promotion side is still the reference point for the club. Nené Ballina is the other name most often linked with Ribadesella.
