Saratov 2 spends its seasons in the shadow of the first team, competing in the VTB Youth United League and the Junior Basketball League. The point of the reserve side has never really been its own results.

That system has already paid off. Yegor Kurkin worked his way through Avtodor-2 before stepping up to the first team, and the club can point to a longer trail behind him: Artem Zabelin left for CSKA and later Lokomotiv-Kuban and Krasnye Krylya before coming back to Saratov, and Artem Klimenko took the same route out to UNICS and Zenit and back again.

The team's own competitive record has a fast start built into it — a fourth-place finish in its debut season of 2014/15 was followed almost immediately by a run to the final, lost to CSKA-2 by two points, 65:67. Regionally, the side has taken the Cup of the Saratov Region twice in a row, beating RBC 107:52 in the second of those finals.

There is no separate identity to speak of: the black-and-white colours and the Black-and-Whites nickname are the parent club's, inherited rather than earned. The team plays out of the Ice Sports Palace Kristall, a 5,500-seat arena in Saratov built for ice sport and repurposed for basketball.
