Saumur

The 2021 cup run is what people in Saumur still bring up. In goal that season was Anthony Dauvergne , who came through the training centre at Paris Saint-Germain and then spent more than eight seasons here before retiring. Seventeen years earlier the club had knocked out Paris Saint-Germain in an early round.

The club exists because three teams in the town stopped competing with each other. In 2000 JA Saumur, ASPTT Saumur and Racing Club de Saumur merged into Olympique Saumur FC . Racing Club was itself a merger, formed in 1989 when Olympique de Saumur — founded in 1945, alive for 44 years — joined SC Bagneux.

League progress came in two steps: the CFA 2 group title in 2011, then the Nationale 3 group B championship in 2022. The Coupe de l'Atlantique has been won six times, first in 1977 by one of the predecessor clubs, most recently in 2015 and 2016.

Sidiki Chérif was in the youth system for a single season, 2018-19, before Angers took him. He reached Ligue 1 with them in 2023 and moved to Coventry City in 2026.
