Sokoto
Club · Nigeria · Federation Cup
Founded in 2012 to build up football in Sokoto State, the club has spent its life in the Nigeria National League, the country's second tier, playing out of the Giginya Memorial Stadium in front of crowds capped at 5,000. Orange has been the club's signature colour since new home and away kits, in orange and blue, were unveiled for the 2024/25 season.
The name most associated with Sokoto United belongs to Shehu Abdullahi, born in the city in December 1993, who left the club for Kano Pillars before going on to win 37 caps for Nigeria and play in Turkey with Bursaspor. Technical adviser Peter Ajeni now runs the team day to day, having taken over from Mansur Abdullahi.
Fixtures against Zamfara United carry the sharpest edge for supporters, a regional meeting played as a battle for pride, with El Kanemi Warriors and Adamawa United standing as the club's other familiar opponents.
