Steinbach is a district of Burghaun, a market town in the Fulda district. Founded on 1 January 1920, SV Steinbach settled into black and white around 1930 and has stayed there since.
The club's high point came in the 2016/17 season, when it won the Verbandsliga Hessen-Nord and earned promotion to the Hessenliga, the fifth tier of German football. A decade earlier, in 2007, it had already made the jump from the district league to the Verbandsliga with 80 points, a season strong enough to have the club named Team of the Year in East Hesse.
In cup football, SV Steinbach has twice reached the last 16 of the Hessenpokal, in 2024/25 and again in 2025/26. Home matches are played in front of a ground that holds 2,000.
