Troon Fc

Across South Ayrshire, the derby that matters to Troon runs against Ardrossan Winton Rovers, played out in the Ayrshire District League with Saltcoats Victoria completing the coastal rivalry.

The club now known as Troon FC did not start under that name. Its line runs back to 1889, when Troon Academicals joined the first Ayrshire Junior Football Association, and it passed through spells as Troon Rangers and Troon Athletic before the Second World War forced a break. When junior football reorganised afterwards, the club re-formed in 1946 as Troon Juniors, and it kept that name until 1977, when the "Juniors" was dropped for the plainer Troon Football Club.

Portland Park has staged it all, a ground where 2,000 fans stand rather than sit.

The Ayrshire Junior Cup, won in the 1921–22 season under one of the club's earlier names, stands as the oldest honour still claimed. It took until 2003–04 for the West of Scotland Cup to follow, and the Super League First Division Championship arrived in 2013–14.
