Viitorul Cluj

In the fourth tier and then the third, Viitorul competes with CFR Cluj and Universitatea Cluj for players and for attention rather than for points.

The club grew out of an academy. Răzvan Zăvăleanu, who played for both CFR Cluj and Universitatea Cluj, set it up in 2017 and still serves as president, and the football association later rated its production of players second in the country, behind only Farul Constanța. Marius Ștefănescu came through it before Sepsi OSK, where he grew into a Romania international, and moved on again to Farul and then Universitatea Cluj.

The senior side won the Cluj county championship, Liga IV, in 2020/21. The play-off that followed took them to a penalty shoot-out against Dinamo Bacău, and they lost it. No trophy above that level sits in the record.

Home is the Dan Anca sports base on Aleea Detunata, in the Gheorgheni district, opened in 2011. The ground holds 1,000.
