Zelzate

Two titles inside three seasons took Zelzate out of provincial football. The first came in 2018, when the club won the First Provincial League of East Flanders; the second, in 2020, was the Third Amateur Division — and it carried the club up to Belgian Division 2. Nine years earlier none of that would have been possible in the form it happened, because there were still two clubs in the town.

The merger of 2008 joined KSLV Zelzate with KFC Zelzate and kept the older side's matricule, 4165 — and with it a line running back to a founding on 26 December 1922. The name that stands over the modern club, KVV Zelzate, dates only from that year.

The ground carries the name of the club's best-known player. Armand Seghers signed for the predecessor side in 1942, and left for KAA Gent, where he kept goal 485 times and won the Belgian Cup in 1964. He was capped 11 times by Belgium and died in 2005. The complex named after him holds 2,000.

Division 2 in 2024–25 ended with a third place that would not normally have been enough. League reform did the rest: Zelzate went up to Belgian Division 1, four tiers above where they were standing in 2017.
