Zürich City

In 2015, a club playing under the name Real Madrid Zürich found itself before a Swiss court after lawyers for the Spanish giant objected, and lost the right to the name. It was not the club's only brush with a bigger neighbour's trademark: founded in 2014 as FC Trinacria, it had already tried on Real Madrid Zürich, then SC Barcelona, then FC Tetova, before a 2019 attempt to call itself FC Zürich United drew a complaint from FC Zürich. By 2020 the club settled, as a newly constituted legal entity, on Zürich City SC — a name plain enough to avoid a third dispute.

The club has no formal tie to FC Zürich; the resemblance is coincidental and, given the history, a sore point rather than a claim to lineage. It plays in the 2. Liga interregional, the fourth tier of Swiss football, out of Sportanlage Neudorf on Siewerdtstrasse, a 1,500-capacity ground. The kit runs white and blue.

Luis Frangao, once a player at FC Winterthur, moved into Zürich City's dugout as assistant coach. Aron Martins came through the club's own youth ranks before FC Zürich took him into its academy. In 2025 the forward Enis Kuka joined from FC Red Star ZH.
