Abe Lenstra Stadion
Abe Lenstra died in September 1985, and the club's old home, Sportpark Noord , was renamed in his honour the year after. That older ground closed in 1994, its last match a testimonial between the squad of the day and the former players who had come before them.
What opened in Heerenveen that August, with Prince Willem-Alexander doing the honours, was a little over half the seats it holds today. The change came between 2002 and 2005, when the ground was folded into the wider Sportstad Heerenveen development and a new east stand nearly doubled the capacity. The wider complex it belonged to ran past €200 million.
Guus Meeuwis played here in consecutive summers at the end of the 2000s, Emma Heesters more recently. No sponsor has ever been attached to the name.
