Ahmed bin Ali Stadium

The ground on Dukhan Road stands where an older one stood, and it is partly built from it: when the 2003 stadium was pulled down in 2015, some 90% of the rubble went back into the structure that replaced it. The name came with the site — Ahmed bin Ali, the former Emir — so the new building carries the old title without ever having borne another.

It opened on 18 December 2020, on Qatar's National Day, with the pitch already fitted with a cooling system beneath the grass. Two years later it worked through seven matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and its fullest evening was the Round of 16 tie on 3 December, when Argentina beat Australia 2–1 in front of 45,032 — the largest crowd the venue has held. A Brazilian flag appeared in the Argentine section that night.

What happened afterwards is the part that separates it from the grounds built to stay the size they were. The upper tier was taken apart and the permanent capacity brought down to 21,000, with the removed seats sent on to community projects. Al-Rayyan SC play there now.

The tournament work has kept coming since: four matches of the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup, the Turkish Super Cup that same year, and games at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, among them the semi-final between Jordan and South Korea. In February 2024 it staged the "Match for Hope", with Kaká and Eden Hazard among the players, which raised more than $8.85 million.
