Al Dhafra Stadium
Al Ain had a ground before this one. Tahnoun bin Mohammed Stadium , with room for 15,000, ran out of games in 2014 — the same year its replacement opened on 23 January, at 25,000. The club, Al-Ain FC , had been playing since 1968 and has used the new arena as its home ever since.
The UAE cup was decided here in 2015 and again in 2019, and the AFC Champions League final was played on this pitch twice, in 2016 and in 2024, on a surface that changed in between.
That change came in 2018, before the Club World Cup. The ground was given a SIS Grass hybrid pitch, ahead of a tournament in which the host club reached the semi-final and met River Plate in front of a home crowd.
One point of order for anyone searching: Al Dhafra Stadium , also known as Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Stadium, is a different ground in Madinat Zayed and not this one.
