The name came off the map before it came off a club. When the ground opened in the summer of 1924 it was Dzūkų stadionas — the Dzukija stadium. After the Second World War the name shortened to the municipal one it still carries, Alytaus miesto stadionas, and the regional label went out of use.
The ground has been rebuilt four times over: in 1957–1958, again in 1993, in 2007, and once more across 2009–2010.
It holds 3,748, on grass. That last detail is the one that separates it from the other ground in Alytus: the aviation club's stadium across town is laid with an artificial surface.
