Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium

Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium sits in the Papanikoli district of Larnaca. Antonis Papadopoulos, an EOKA member and a benefactor of Anorthosis Famagusta, died in 1981; the ground took his name a year later, and it has kept that name through every rebuild since.

The arena opened in October 1986, but its real story is one of displacement. Anorthosis is a Famagusta club by charter, driven out after the Turkish invasion of 1974 and still, decades on, playing its home fixtures in Larnaca rather than the city it belongs to.

The ground itself has been rebuilt in stages rather than once. Wooden stands gave way to concrete in 1997-98 to meet European safety rules. A longer campaign between 2006 and 2008 added VIP boxes on the west side, swapped perimeter fencing for plexiglass, and raised a new east stand, the Quality Stand, with its own press facilities and dressing rooms. A further refit came in 2024, ahead of UEFA European Under-17 Championship fixtures.

Cyprus have used it for occasions that outgrew routine league football: a 3-2 win over Spain in September 1998 qualifying stands out among them, and the Cyprus Super Cup final has returned here repeatedly, with APOEL's win over AEL in 2019. Concerts have found their way onto the pitch too, from Anna Vissi in 1999 to Konstantinos Argiros in 2023.

Demolition and expansion work on the north, south and east stands is reported to begin in April 2026, with the west side widened; the finished ground is expected to hold 9,730.
