The ground is named for a former mayor of Larnaca, a figure remembered as a national hero of the 1955–1959 Cypriot War of Independence.
When the doors opened on 12 October 1986, the first match was against Ermis Aradippou. The stadium has also hosted international friendlies, including a fixture between Ukraine and the USA.
The playing surface is natural grass, cut to a standard 105 by 68 metres. The location is marked simply by its street name, Antonis Papadopoulos Street, in the Livadia district of Larnaca.
