The Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium sits in Athens. Leoforos is the name the city still uses. It opened in 1922. When floodlights first went up in 1938.

The ground follows the slope of the land. A photograph from a quiet afternoon shows green and white seats arranged in a pattern that looks like a badge, worn through by decades of use. The surface is natural grass, a standard that the venue established in 1951 when it became the first in the country to feature a full pitch of turf rather than sand. Below the east curve, an indoor hall sits beneath the concrete; locals call it "The Indian's Tomb," a space that once hosted basketball and volleyball matches long before the building became a home for football again.

The capacity is 16,003, a number that feels small for a city of this size, yet the stadium has hosted two football teams in recent years. A.E. Kifisia plays its home matches here, while Athens Kallithea is due to arrive next season. Panathinaikos used to fill the benches every week, returning for periods of time after decades away, but the ground has never been a permanent base for them since the early years. The history between the club and the venue adds an edge to matches played here; the old head settled them down.

There are no luxury boxes or glass entrances. The concrete steps look like they have been walked on since the 1950s, when the west stand was built to hold 13,000 people. A banner near the entrance bears the number 13, a detail that belongs to the supporters rather than the management. The stadium fell silent during the European nights in the late sixties, when Panathinaikos hosted Bayern Munich for the Cup Winners' Cup. The wind goes straight through it, but the game is always played in the middle.
