Arena Næstved
Næstved, Denmark
Arena Næstved opened in November 2015. The architect CEBRA won the competition to design it.
The main hall holds 4,500 standing spectators or 2,576 seated. The parquet surface is natural wood. The arena hosted the opening game of the Basketligaen, where 2,642 people found their way in to watch a match between the home side and Horsens.
The capacity stretched further in December 2015, when the venue took on the World Women's Handball Championship. The crowd for a match between the Netherlands and China topped 2,950.
The complex is not confined to the main hall. The older structures remain, bringing the total capacity of the site to around 7,000.
It is an oddity in the Danish sporting landscape. The handball club Nykøbing Falster Håndboldklub plays here, as does the local basketball team. The space has also held everything from comedy shows to boxing events.
