Arena Ytacoatiara

It is a small ground in a small place, but the roof is the thing that catches the eye. Two long white covers stretch over the terracing, keeping the rain off the seats. Behind the stands you can see the patchwork of red-tiled roofs belonging to the town, and further out the taller blocks of the centre.

The place is known locally as Arena Ytacoatiara, though it was built under a different name. In 2008 it was given a complete overhaul, lifting the number of seats from 2,500 to 6,500. The grass is cut short and watered every day. In 2021 they hosted a match in the Copa do Brasil that finished 2-2, with 1,918 people turning up.

The building has been tested. In January 2021 a metal section of the roof collapsed after a storm, and in March 2024 a wall gave way, leaving doubts about the structure for the coming season.
