Attis Arena
Scunthorpe, United Kingdom
Formerly: Glanford Park, The Sands Venue Stadium
The Attis Arena is not a showpiece. The Doncaster Road End remains a standing terrace, a rare sight in modern football, while the rest of the stadium sits in seats.
Inside, the pitch is natural grass. There is no undersoil heating. The Clugston Stand houses the amenities, including a can bar and toilets, simple facilities that serve the crowd without pretension. The seats here are claret.
The stadium’s history is visible in its structure. It opened as Glanford Park, named after the local council that helped fund it, and was built by the Birse Group. Safety regulations forced a change in 1991, converting the Railway End to an all-seater area and reducing the capacity to its current level.
Ownership shifted to The New Show Ground Community Interest Company in 2023, securing the club’s future after previous plans for a new stadium nearby were abandoned. The recent renaming to Attis Arena brought minor signage updates but no structural overhaul. It is a ground that has seen Manchester United and Newcastle United, yet its character remains unchanged by the stature of its visitors.
