The ground does not look like a copy of any other football stadium in the region.

It opened in 1937, when the city was part of Yugoslavia and the stands could hold over thirty thousand people. The stadium then spent the next decade as the national ground for the Football Association of Republika Srpska, when the country was split and the team played its first official match there against the Republic of Serbian Krajina.

More recent work has been quieter in appearance but more thorough. The hybrid grass is not the original surface, nor is it the wooden seating, but it was installed during a renovation that met the standards required by UEFA.
