The Academiei Gheorghe Hagi complex was never meant to fill a city's need for a stadium. The ground rose where farmland once stood, and construction ran for the better part of four years before the gates opened in 2015. What started as a 3,000-seat venue was expanded the same year, once Viitorul had earned its place in Romania's top flight and needed a home that matched the level.

The naming tells its own story: Gheorghe Hagi owns the stadium outright, and the academy's name sits above the club's on the ground itself. FCV Farul Constanța, successor to Viitorul, has called it home since 2021, playing on a natural pitch cut to regulation size. The stands hold 4,554, modest by design — this was never built to draw crowds, but to develop them.

Romania's under-21 side brought a rare taste of international football here, hosting Switzerland, Portugal and Bosnia and Herzegovina during qualifying for the 2019 European Championship. For a ground its size, that run of fixtures marked out Ovidiu on the football map for a season, before the calendar returned to league football and the academy's daily business of shaping the next generation of players.
