Construction started in the spring of 1955 and the ground opened on 4 April 1959. The record crowd dates from a 1972 A Group fixture against Levski Sofia, when 42,000 people filled a stadium.

The floodlights and scoreboard installed in October 2011, part of a wider 2011–2013 rebuild, mattered beyond the stands: they let Beroe return to European competition after a 27-year absence. A 2000-seat stand with a canopy for sector B was planned in 2017 to bring the venue closer to UEFA requirements.

The current rebuild, begun in June 2025 and budgeted at roughly 3.5 million leva over 270 days, goes further than previous phases: new LED lighting, insulated façades, an external lift, accessible routes for wheelchair users, and 210 photovoltaic panels over the car park aimed at an energy class A rating.

It staged qualifiers for the Under-21 Euro 2015 and Under-17 Euro 2013, and hosted the opening match of the 2015 Under-17 European Championship on 6 May 2015, Bulgaria against Croatia, watched by 10,640.
