Besa Stadium
Kavajë's ground carries the name of a footballer before it carries the name of a club. It opened in 1974 as Stadiumi Xhevat Hylfiu, marking a local player killed in a car accident, and only later took the name Besa, after the side that plays there. The construction itself belonged to the state planning of the period: architects Isuf Sukaj and Mehmet Karri drew it up, engineers Agim Koçi and Nikolla Verdho carried it out.
Its most striking chapter has nothing to do with football. On the night of 25–26 March 1990, the stadium grounds became the site of clashes between riot police and residents of Kavajë. Besa itself never got to stage a cup final at home despite three appearances in the Albanian Cup showpiece — each one was played on neutral ground in Tirana, and when the club finally won the trophy in 2019, that final too was held elsewhere. The ground was never brought up to the standard UEFA required for the national team either.
Its more recent history is one of damage and waiting. The earthquake of 26 November 2019, magnitude 6.4, left the structure unsafe and forced its closure. The first step of a rebuild pursued jointly by the Albanian Football Federation and the Kavajë municipality, aimed at a UEFA category four venue in place of the old Stadiumi Besa.
