Beşirli Multi-Purpose Sports Hall
Trabzon, Turkey
Formerly: Beşirli Tennis Complex
The Beşirli Multi-Purpose Sports Hall stands where the old Beşirli Tennis Complex once sat. Construction began in August 2016, turning a facility built for the 2011 European Youth Olympic Festival into an indoor arena. It opened in April 2018, replacing the demolished 19 Mayıs Sports Hall to serve the neighbourhood. The building sits on Devlet Sahil Yolu Caddesi, a strip of road that runs along the coast.
Inside, the space is defined by its hardwood parquet floor, which covers a 42-by-27-metre court. This surface allows the hall to host international matches for basketball, volleyball, handball and tennis, rather than locking it into a single sport. Seating rises around the perimeter to hold 3,500 spectators. The structure itself was built by the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports.
It is the home of Trabzon Büyükşehir Belediyespor and Ortahisar Belediyespor, both clubs competing in the Handball Super League. The hall does not host top-tier professional basketball or volleyball teams as primary tenants. The venue has seen other life, too. A boxing gala in October 2018 featured teams from Trabzon against opponents from Ukraine and Georgia, while a CEV European Golden League volleyball match between Turkey and Belgium took place in June 2019. More recently, the 24th February Liberation Cup Chess Tournament was held here in February 2024.
There is no sponsorship name attached to the building, and no attendance record stands out as exceptional.
