Bluenergy Stadium

The western stand is the piece that survived. When Udinese pulled the ground apart between 2013 and 2016, the concrete arc over the west side stayed where it was, and the other three stands came down and went back up in modular precast steel. The athletics track went with them, which let the new tiers sit close to the pitch.

Giampaolo Pozzo paid for most of the roughly €50 million work, taking a 99-year lease on the municipal ground in return. The exterior came back clad in 10,000 satin stainless steel sheets set in a diamond pattern, and the nickname followed: The Diamond. The name on the ground has moved with the money — Stadio Friuli when it opened in 1976 on the site chosen to replace the Stadio Moretti, Dacia Arena once the rebuild finished, Bluenergy Stadium since 2023.

The record crowd came after the work was done rather than before it: 26,008 on 29 January 2017, above the seated capacity, for a Serie A match Udinese won 2–1 against Milan.

Before any of that, in the old configuration, it took three Group E matches at the 1990 World Cup — Uruguay and Spain drew 0–0, Spain beat South Korea 3–1, Uruguay beat South Korea 1–0. It later held the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship final, and Italy's rugby union side has used it too, against South Africa in November 2009 and since then in the Autumn Nations Series.
