Bristol County Ground

The Bristol County Ground sits with its back to the modern apartments of Ashley Down. That confectionery connection remains the clearest memory of the place , even though it is now known by the Seat Unique Stadium title.

The ground has hosted matches in the Cricket World Cup, including a notable contest where Sachin Tendulkar scored 140 not out against Kenya in 1999. It also staged a Women's Test match between England and India in 2021, the first of its kind since 2014, which ended in a draw. The capacity swells for these occasions, with temporary seating pushing the numbers to 17,500, a figure that dwarfs the permanent accommodation of roughly 8,000. The highest attendance record remains 32,000, set during a Test match in 1957.

The playing surface is natural grass, maintained to a high standard for the first-class games hosted by Gloucestershire County Cricket Club. The club has played here since 1889, when W. G. Grace purchased the land. The architecture has shifted over time, with the hyperbolic-paraboloid roof designed by T. H. B. Burrough for the public terraces being demolished in later years. The current stands reflect the redevelopment work carried out between 2012 and 2013, which included the construction of a new media centre and the rebuilding of the Mound Stand.
