Cappielow sits in a strip of land off Sinclair Street with the Clyde close enough that flooding has been a recurring hazard since Greenock Morton moved in during 1879.

The Main Stand dates to 1931 and kept its wooden benches until the late 1990s, when the club finally swapped them for plastic seating.

The record attendance, 23,500, belongs to a title-deciding league match against Celtic on 29 April 1922, a game remembered as much for the crowd trouble that followed as for the result. An afternoon came on 25 January 2014, when a Scottish Championship fixture against Queen of the South was abandoned after ten minutes following the death of a supporter, Andrew Kemp, in the stands.
