Albacete, Spain
The ground is defined by its conversion to a pure football venue in 1998. Before that project, the athletics track surrounded the field. Removing it and lowering the pitch changed the relationship between the crowd and the players, making the home end feel closer to the action.
The east stand is a modern two-tiered structure, while the west stand has a simple roof covering only the lower section. The pitch itself is natural grass, a detail confirmed by the club in 2019 when they installed a silica sand base. It is not a hybrid.
This venue has hosted five senior Spanish national team matches, including a qualifier for the 2014 World Cup against Georgia. More recently, Albacete used this pitch to beat Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey before facing Barcelona in the quarter-finals. The attendance figures fluctuate, but the club’s official site lists a capacity of 17,034, while other records suggest a higher number closer to 17,500.
A recent modernisation project has been initiated for the 2025-26 season, with an estimated cost of over €6.5 million. The stadium also hosted a rugby final in 2021 and concerts by Sting and Maná, though those events do not define the daily rhythm of the place.
