Ciudad de Marcos Paz (under construction)

The Ciudad de Marcos Paz stadium does not yet have a match to describe, only a plan taking shape at Acceso Zabala, on the edge of the town it is named after. It belongs to Club Atlético Fénix, a club whose relationship with its own ground has been anything but settled — Fénix lost its original stadium in 1978, when it was seized during the military dictatorship, and has shifted between borrowed grounds ever since. A prior attempt to put down roots in Rea Grande, in the Moreno district, stalled when the local municipality withheld the permits the project needed. Marcos Paz offered what Moreno would not: an agreement with the club to build on municipal land.

Work began in late 2024, with the club itself acting as developer. The plan called for the pitch to be laid with artificial turf rather than grass, a choice the municipality has linked to giving the venue wider use beyond football. An opening in January 2025 was the original target, timed so Fénix could start that season on the new ground, but no confirmed completion date has followed.

Fénix currently plays in the Primera B Metropolitana, the third tier of Argentine football, a modest level for a club with a history stretching back more than seventy years. What the new stadium represents, more than anything, is an attempt to end that history of displacement with a ground the club can finally call its own.
